The Junior Club of PSCHS

The Junior Club of PSCHS is made up of skating members under the age of 18. As Club Members, Junior Club skaters and their families can develop a love and proficiency in the sport of figure skating, and make new friends while participating in various Club activities throughout the season. For the safety and enjoyment of everyone, all parents and skaters are asked to be familiar with the Ice Rules.

TOTS

On Thursdays from 12:00 - 12:45 pm, Tots under the age of 4 may take a group lesson at the regular cost of the Learn-to-Skate - Mom & Tot program (inquire at Club Office). There is also practice time on this session that is shared with adult skaters.

Parents are encouraged, but not required, to accompany their children on the ice. Helmets are mandatory for Tots, as are mittens and warm attire.

Tots may also skate the Junior C/D sessions with supervision and take the Basic Skills classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:30 - 4:45 pm.

Junior A/B - Test Qualified

Skaters who qualify to skate these sessions have passed US Figure Skating tests. Level A (high) is for skaters who have passed the Juvenile Moves-in-the-Field (MIF) or Pre-Silver dances. Level A skaters are NOT permitted to skate down a level on the B sessions. Level B (low) skaters must have passed Preliminary MIF and are allowed to skate down. Level A & B skaters are permitted to skate the Mixed sessions with adults.

Junior C/D - Basic Skills Bridge

The Basic Skills Program is designed by US Figure Skating to teach children of pre-school age and up to skate. Skill booklets for tracking progress are available from the Office. Skaters receive ribbons for each Level they pass.

The Club offers group lessons on Tuesdays and Thursdays for all Basic Skills skaters Levels 1 - 8, plus a Boys Group (Level 4 and higher) at 4:30 pm. A Basic Synchronized Skating class on Mondays, and a Basic Ensemble Skating class on Wednesdays. Both classes will be given at 4:30 pm for anyone who has passed Basic Skills 4 through Pre-Juvenile Moves-in-the-Field (MIF). Groups will be divided by Level. These lessons and classes are included in your membership.

Skaters are encouraged to practice on the other days. On Junior C/D sessions, only single jumps are allowed and no camel spins. Bridge sessions are 5:00 - 5:30 pm, and skaters who have passed Basic Skills 5 through Pre-Juvenile MIF are eligible to skate this session. There are two Junior Club Supervisors who oversee these sessions.

Parents are reminded that children may NOT be dropped-off unless they have a designated adult friend in attendance. In addition, families must fill out an Emergency Form to be kept in the Office. The Junior Club Committee organizes parents who wish to volunteer for "Ice Duty." Ice Duty parents are responsible for assisting the Junior Club Supervisors and monitoring sessions for safety.

Family Sessions

Family Sessions are scheduled on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Additional Family Sessions are scheduled during the winter holidays. These sessions are a great way to entertain family and friends. The Club welcomes Guests; please sign the Guest Book by the Front Office to have the Guest Fees charged to your Club Account. Either hockey skates or figure skates may be worn. Jumps and spins are not permitted beyond those practiced on Junior C/D level. There is no supervision provided on these sessions.

Ensemble and Synchro Skating

Ensemble Skating, also known as Theater On Ice, is a competitive team skating discipline that combines figure skating with dance and theater. The Team skates on Saturday mornings with head coaches Laura & Jason Corley. For more information on becoming a Team member, contact the Corleys at 215-836-0258.

Synchro skating (also a college sport) is new this year for our Junior skaters. Practices are held on Sundays evenings from 6:30 - 7:15 pm and is taught by John Thomas and Regina Barr. Contact Maude White, Director of Skating, for more information.

Hockey Skills

On Sundays, instruction is provided for hockey skaters who have passed Basic Skills 3. Drills teach hockey skills and unofficial games are played with a lightweight puck. Hockey skates are permitted, but not required. Skaters may wear equipment (at least helmets and shin pads).

On Fridays, a "Hockey Power" class is conducted by a staff coach from 5:00 - 6:00 pm. This class will be behind the cones and please NO equipment.

Off-Ice Training

A variety of off-ice classes are offered to enhance skaters' training. Ballet is offered on Mondays, and Conditioning is offered on Wednesdays. Check the Bulletin Board for times and please sign-up.

PSCHS has new exercise equipment available in the Warm-Up room. Skaters must be at least 12 years of age and sign-in at the Office.

Junior Club Dancers

Junior Club skaters are invited to participate in a fun, informative Program Dance Tape on several Saturdays during the season: Times will be announced. No experience is necessary. Basic Skills skaters must have passed Basic Skills 6 to participate in the first 1/2-hour, Higher-level skaters Junior A/B can skate the full hour. Skaters can skate and learn the dances alone, with a partner, or with a coach @$2 per dance.

Private Lessons

Skaters who wish to work one-on-one with a skating professional, may contact a PSCHS staff coach directly. If assistance is needed, feel free to contact Maude White, Director of Skating.

It is a professional courtesy that once lessons are arranged with a specific coach, no other private lessons are arranged with a different coach without the prior knowledge of current coach. In addition, if you are unable to make a scheduled lesson, 24-hours notice is required; otherwise, be prepared to pay for the lesson.

Equipment

PSCHS offers a full-service rink-side Pro Shop managed by Fran Mycek, General Manager who is proficient in fitting skates and blades, as well as sharpening.
