As a test skater, April is a double gold medalist in Dance
and Freedance. She has passed her International Dances and Canadian
Golds. April started out as a freestyle skater before switching to
dance at the age of fourteen. She has passed her 7th figure test and
Junior Freestyle. As a competitor, April
trained for ten years at the University of Delaware under coaches
Robbie Kaine and Ron Ludington. With her dance partner, Russ
Witherby, April competed on the National and International Circuit for ten
years, was a National and World Championship competitor five times, an
alternate for the 1988 Olympic Games and 1992 National Champion and competitor
in the Olympic Games in Albertville, France. After the 1992 Olympics, she retired from
amateur skating and began coaching.
April is a
certified Technical Specialist for Ice Dancing in the new
International Skating Union judging system. She is currently the only
American Dance Specialist qualified to serve on International, World, and
Olympic events.
April enjoys working with students of all
ages and abilities. She is available by appointment for lessons in
freestyle, dance, moves in the field, and choreography.
April lives on the Main Line with her husband and five
children. Outside the rink, she enjoys skiing, golf, and
gardening.
